Peanut Butter Sandwiches

They can be quite ordinary. Or they can be rather exotic! It's up to you; the choice is yours. There is no law or rule that says a Peanut Butter Sandwich has to be any particular way. If YOU are going to eat it, use it to nourish your body, then have it just the way YOU want it. How YOU want it "ain't nobody's bidness but yo' own."
Some suggestions that might help you ENJOY your Peanut Butter Sandwich more:
Different Kinds of Bread:
- It doesn't have to be the white, tasteless, spongy kind!
- Wholemeal is great, whether it's 100% whole wheat, 7 grains, sprouted grain, flax-bread, or whatever.
- There is NO reason why you shouldn't try a FLATBREAD or PITA version!
- Toasting your bread can make a much nicer sandwich.
The Sacred Spread -- Peanut Butter its Ownself:
- Crunchy or smooth is a basic choice, but that's not the end of your options.
- Organic is great (but you have to stir the oil back into it first)!
- Other nut butters: almond, cashew, hazlenut, macadamia, sesame, pistachio -- check out the alternatives.
Underlay
- A little honest-to-gosh BUTTER underneath lubricates the whole thing delightfully.
- You could get really sneaky and put Nutella or a similar chocolate-hazlenut spread under the Goober Goo.
Toppings -- the Sky's the Limit:
- Here's where it really gets various -- or just plain weird!
- Jellies and jams of all kinds are fairly traditional, of course.
- But have you tried orange marmalade -- particularly the bittersweet Seville Orange variety?
- Sliced bananas are popular.
- Raisins are great, and good for you!
- Cashew nuts on top if you really wanna be decadent.
- Here's a great idea -- TRAIL MIX!!!
- Granola, if you're too timid for trail mix.
- Creamed honey -- tricky to spread it on top and tricky to keep it there, but HOW SWEET IT IS!
- Thin sliced AVOCADO -- don't knock it if you haven't tried it!
- Thinly sliced raw carrot -- health plus crunch.
- Alfalfa sprouts or wheat sprouts -- health-food delight!
- Cream cheese . . . mmmm!
- Pitted dates -- gummy but good!
- Uh-oh! I almost forgot CRISPY FRIED BACON!
- D'you reckon anybody's ever tried ANCHOVIES?
- These are only the cream skimmed off the top of toppings topic -- if you have other favorites, please add them to the list right here and now!
- Green Tomato Pickles....
Open-faced or closed
- Open is more aesthetic if you've got interesting toppings.
- Better cap that creamed-honey special with another slice of wholemeal, though, before it runs all over the place.
- If you're gonna "take it out" rather than "eat it here," closed is the better part of discretion -- and essential if you intend to wrap it.
